During her 33 years as an educator for Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District GCCISD, Irma served as teacher, counselor, Assistant Principal, Academic Dean, AVID District Director and retired as Director of Guidance and Counseling.

After retirement, Irma was rewired and worked at San Jacinto College North as Teacher Certification Officer and Western Governor’s University (WGU) Teacher Field Supervisor.

Irma was led to establish two small businesses, The Learning Curve Educational Services and Simplee Elegant Weddings and Events. The Learning Curve afforded her the opportunity to mentor teachers and students alike. Simplee Elegant Weddings and Events was her retirement dream job. Becoming a Certified Wedding and Event Planner, CWEP, put her in contact with people who became wonderful lifelong friends.

Graduating Magna Cum Laude in the spring of 1974, Irma earned her bachelor’s degree in English. In 1977, she earned a master’s in Guidance and Counseling. While matriculating at Prairie View, Irma pledged the First and Finest Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. with fifty plus years of loyal friendship and love from her line sisters, THE 3RD EDITION. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Mu National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Sigma Tau Delta National English Honor Society, and Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society.

In addition to serving as the PVAMU 1974 Golden Class Secretary, Irma is a faithful member of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church where she serves as a Greeter and Decision Counselor. She also serves on the Events Committee for the United Way of Greater Baytown Area and Chambers County.

Irma loves to travel and hopes to complete the fifty states and continue her travels abroad.
